SWIM SUIT DRIVE

Donate any new or gently used swimsuits to our Ys. Donated suits will be provided to children and adults in need. We are hosting our 11th annual swimsuit drive throughout the month of May. Donations will be accepted from May 1- 31 at all Y locations.

NATIONAL HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE EDUCATION MONTH

Did you know that one out of every three Americans has high blood pressure? And only about half of those have their condition under control. May is National High Blood Pressure Education Month and the Y wants you to be aware of your risk. Research shows that the simple process of checking and recording your blood pressure at least twice a month over four months may lower blood pressure in people with high blood pressure. Research also shows that proper nutrition, particularly with a reduction in sodium, can help lower diastolic and systolic blood pressure. On May 16, the Y will offer FREE blood pressure screenings during the open house.

SUMMER CAMP

Don’t forget to sign your child up for the best summer ever! The Y offers both traditional camp for children ages 4-12 and teen camps for teens ages 13-15. For more information on camp offerings, visit ymcabr.org/camp.

NATIONAL WATER SAFETY MONTH
Drowning is the second leading cause of death for children ages 5 to 14. With National Water Safety Month in May and summer around the corner, it’s a great time for parents to remember the importance of ensuring their children are equipped with essential water safety skills.

Through the Y’s Safety Around Water program, parents and caregivers are encouraged to help their children learn fundamental water safety and swimming skills. In many communities, staying safe around water means keeping kids away from water, but water safety and swimming are important life skills that need fostering in all children.Safety Around Water is a great starting point to not only get kids comfortable in the water, but also teach their parents the importance of developing water safety skills.
