Family Fit Challenge

by YMCA YMCA Marketing | Mar 02, 2018

The YMCA of the Capital Area is challenging families and groups in a five-week program aimed at bringing health to the forefront of their minds through learning, playing and developing better habits together, as a unit. The Family Fit Challenge has a different focus each week and a specialist who will speak on that week’s topic. Participants will also receive a handout with suggestions and ideas on how to implement health family habits into their daily routine, as well as a progress tracker. The series is open to the community, as the Y wants all families and groups to obtain better health together.

A tracker with family photographs will be posted in the lobby to keep track of each family’s progress. Each week that a family incorporates the healthy living goals into their daily routines for the majority of the days, they will add a tag to their chart. Additionally, one lucky family will be selected to win a FREE three month family membership to the Y!

The program will end on the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day®, April 21, the Y’s national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families, features activities such as games, healthy cooking demonstrations and arts and crafts to motivate and teach families how to develop a healthy routine at home.

The weekly focuses are:

  • Eat Healthy – At the Y, we believe that small steps lead to big changes. With a balanced approach, even the busiest families can discover ways to eat healthier and feel better.
  • Play Every Day – Play may be the best way to prevent childhood obesity. By putting more play into your family’s day, you will soon find yourself getting the activity that will have your family feeling energized and strong.
  • Get Together – Strong relationships are one of the cornerstones of health and well-being, and few relationships are as important as those between adults and children. The time and attention that you invest now will help your children learn, grow and thrive.
  • Go Outside – Good things happen when we unplug and go outside to play together. Kids and adults benefit from contact with nature as well as unstructured play and exploration.
  • Sleep Well – Sleep is an essential part of healthy living. So many good things happen when our minds and bodies are resting.
